Perhaps the biggest smile of my life

How It All Started:

It's funny how love works...I used to think poetry was cheesy, until one fateful day in English class, when my teacher Gary Kimsey (at the time) asked me to write 25 different poems as a final project. Suddenly a switch in me turned on and I couldn't stop writing. I finished a 3-week project in a 2-day span. I was inspired. When I turned it in, Mr Kimsey looked at me with a "wow" expression. He returned the small book a week later and graded it 195/210. His comment clearly floored me. "This book is exactly what I envisioned, you have developed into a mature young poet I knew you could be" Ever since those uplifting words I realized my calling, it was then when My world began with poetry.

A Poetic Crime

Sifting through words;

Destroying emotion.

To edit a poem,

                                                 An unforgivable crime.

                                                     Plagiarizer

To plagiarize is to acknowledge

You’re no longer honest with yourself

A guilt-ridden

                                                          Conscience

“Poetry, like a prayer, is a spiritual connection between man and God”

Therapeutic Tears

Tears are liquefied feelings;

They lubricate the driest soul.

To cry is to feel…

                                         A blissful release.

Art

Abstract

Appealing

An elegant stroke

A timeless brush, golden

Endless expressions, beauty

“A splash of color adds life to the world”

To Love Her, A Necessary Need

I met her on a Monday, frigid morning

With plenty of sunshine, her smile

She was brown-skin, sensuous caramel

With eyes as hypnotic as a black panther

Her smell was like Georgia peaches,

The fragrance of a Goddess.

Before I could vie for her affections

She unveiled my intentions…

Her vagina spoke (with intelligence)

Telling me that I had no chance

Of getting in between without first getting

To know her from the neck up

And so I smoothly persuaded her

Into unzipping…her mind.

My ears wide open, my

Heart equally empathetic,

I felt the pain through her broken voice

That I swore I held her hand

Through her many trials;

She gave me her trust

And denuded before me,

She succumbed to me.

I rejected the offer,

I couldn’t do it---

My conscience came into play,

It was then I became a man,

Expelling the urge to satisfy my

Carnal need.

My appetite for lust

Was no longer my hunger;

Better understanding her

Became my daily bread.

She needed love,

She needed a best friend.

Someone who would actually listen

And be sensitive to her concerns.

She found comfort in me,

Freely throwing herself towards

My clasping arms.

I held her tightly

And kissed her forehead.

She shed a tear and asked me,

To never leave her or hurt her.

I grabbed her hands and placed it

Right on my heart. She could feel

My beats quickly becoming hers.

Field Worker

Come kiss heaven's hand and give a warm embrace.

Soil the roots of wisdom unto this desolate earth;

A barren land you blissfully sow high hopes,

Plant with joy a prosperous toil reaped with dirty bones.

~

Sacred be your pastures green labored hard and long,

Blessed are the grounds in which you now step upon.

For valued is the meadow that your hard work built;

Nothing is ignored now for decent work dispels all guilt.

~

The spirit does appreciate burning blood and tears,

And blistered hands of effort-fetched by arduous years.

Rewarded be the sweat of a field worker,

For bountiful is the fruit of his labor.

"MLK Jr had a dream, that one day we'd all become free at last, free to be who we are without condemnation; I have a dream, that one day poetry will touch the life of one person and lead him or her to inspire the perfect poem to reach out and touch millions"

Deadly Widow

In (absolute

I lay,

Motionless, frozen

Stillness)

Her kisses; (like)

Neurotoxins

That paralyzed

My sense

Of feeling---

Surreptitiously,

The black widow

Made her web

And entangled me

In a corrosive trap-

She lit my heart

With a diluted promise,

And watched me

Burn in her lie.

She fed till she binged

(in my pain)

Freedom Amidst Tumultuous Roads

My deliverance! Freedom taken, earned, re-gained!

And still I am a prisoner of myself and ignorance

Against all odds I’ve overcome many obstacles

The roads taken were not easy ambles

They were filled with bumps and shambles

Often I look to my past for answers

And often I fall in the same blunders

The mountains seem too high to climb

Nevertheless, I am not he who makes excuses

I am a warrior, willing and able

Ambition and dedication are my fuzes

With God besides me, I am capable

Though the journey will produce many bruises

My faith is unshaken, my fate inescapable!

I Like Your Hugs

I like your hugs when they hug me.

It is quite the thrill. Turbo charged

Endorphins and irregular palpitations.

I like your hugs. I like how they make

Me feel, complete. I like to feel the

Sudden tremors my body goes through,

When your arms are wrapped across

Mine, like frozen, like still, like time

Stopping for affection. I like your hugs

When they hug me. Every time feels

Better.

Timeless Bliss

She and I

(her and me)

In love

So deeply in

Fragile still

(my heart speaks

Her name with)

Subtle grace

(reverberating

-she and I-

In a sacred world)

To love her true-ly

(two beats

Excited as an eager

Morning sun)

Unite in timeless bliss)

"To the world I'm just a mere man; to poetry I am immortal"

The Meaning Behind The Title:

Before a baby is born, he sees nothing but darkness, his world is that of obscurity. When he is delivered from his mother's womb, is when his life is greeted with sublime light, his world begins; Poetry is the very light that destroyed my blindness.

Poetry is the candle found in the darkest of minds

The Elegance Of Your Mind

Your exterior beauty dazzles me;

Your matching intellect enamors me.

Your glamorous appeal concocts well

With your eloquence,

And thus, you’re irresistible .

With your permission…

I’d like to taste the delicacies of your speech

So I can savor your every word.

The chalice of your evocative mind

Is bound to overflow…

And I…

Want to drink

From that chalice,

So that the sweet berries

Of your words

Can quench

            My inquisitive thirst.

 Intrinsic

Intrinsic love;

A blueprint of selflessness…

Friendship Is water,

A nourishing oasis;

It never dries up.

The Power Of Meditation

Open your eyes,

To a distant world,

Far from the one we know.

Find yourself

Afloat a cloud

And let your mind

Drift away.

Let your imagination

Create the perfect illusion…

A fingertip closer to God.

Put aside your

Mortal thoughts

And believe in achieving

An immortal dream,

The perfect rapture.

Let your soul’s joy

Emit positive rays

Of change…

                                                            Meditate.

Seductress Of The Night

Seductress of the night;

Caramel skin complexion,

A tempting treat,

Her lips, like a fierce concoction

Of sugar and spice,

One kiss and…drift away,

She takes me high, above the clouds,

Under heaven, by the stars.

Seductress of the night;

You’re desirable,

Addicting, you’re wanted,

Not only by my body

But by my mind and spirituality,

Your precense excites me,

So much that I experience

An other worldly sensation…desire!

I’m Nothing To This World, Just A Teacher

I am nothing, to this world, just a speck.

This life, a turbulent ride, a vicious trek.

Acceptance becomes a better prize than respect,

For this world, like society, loves to deject.

I am nothing, to this world, just a wanderer.

If life had answers, I’d be a living enquirer.

Complicated and confusing, this world.

Many myths, many fables, many truths, untold.

I am nothing, to this world, just a fool.

I am he who knows nothing, mimicry’s tool.

I am simply a student, life is a distinguished sage.

Life is simply a book, daily turning its page

I am nothing, to this world, just a man.

A humble man, with a majestic plan;

To abolish fictions and disrobe truth,

To educate malnourished minds, our youth.

Oh Lovely My Lovely

O LOVELY how the thought of you sets me free,

Your smile, warm and bright, a splendorous sunshine

Your eyes, a soft hue, like blue laced agatine

O LOVELY how you resemble the perfect blueprint

My muse, goddess of me, you’re a soothing eon;

You pacify my stressful life, you’re my Zion.

Your caress is like a passionate ion,

A rapture-like sensation, your hands, a permanent imprint.

You’re the permanent tattoo, forever etched in my beats,

You’re the lasting scent, impregnated in my bed-sheets,

You’re my happiness, sadness easily fleets,

My past replaced, with your delicate fingerprint.

O LOVELY how the thought of you sets me free,

Your smile, so warm and light, a subtle sunshine

Your eyes, a tender hue, of blue laced agatine

O LOVELY how you resemble perfection!

Poet To The Night

They call me poet to the night,

Say honey, can I get to know you

From the neck up? May I

Seduce your mind with funky

Fresh explicit and illicit wordplay?

Seduce your mind to the point

Of complete and total nudity?

Talk about me?

Nah, Let’s talk about you,

About your upbringing,

About your past.

I want to get deeply embedded

In the lustrous fibers of your

Thought process, so I can

Intervene between painful

Thoughts so that you can

No longer remember

Why you’re crying.

Is that a giggle I hear?

Cool then, now cheer up

And let me see the radiant glow

Disperse from the twinkle of

Your eyes, let the rainbow

Of your dimples connect with

The sunshine, let happiness

Glisten through,

Smile.

They call me poet to the night,

And I’m trying to propose you

Mentally so I can marry

You intellectually…

Make love to you in a vivid dream

And wake up next to you

As if our sub-consciousness

Became one.

Say honey,

They call me poet to the night

And if you want me

Just for the night,

I’ll be your slave forever.

Three Words That Really Matter

I live for thee,

As I’ve never lived before.

For thee I’d die,

A thousand life-times.

In the palm of your hands

(my precious) I rest my heart,

In the warmthness of your caress

(my sweet) all pain is gone.

I can write a universe of words-

I can compose a world of loving verses-

I can decipher your beauty in a million feelings-

Yet, why waste so much when I can express

Perfection in three words…I love you!
